Question

A solution of 0.450 gm of Urea (mol.wt.60) in 22.5 gm of water showed 0.170C of elevation in boiling point. Calculate the molal elevation constant of water:-
  1. 0.45Ckg/mol

  2. 0.51Ckg/mol

  3. 0.17Ckg/mol
  4. 0.30Ckg/mol

Solution

The correct option is B 0.51Ckg/mol

wt.of solute w=0.450 gmmolal elevationwt.of solvent W=22.5 gmconstant Kb=?mol.wt. of solute = m=60

Boiling point elevation ΔTb=0.170c

Subtituting these values in the equation:-
Kb=m×W×ΔTb1000×w

=0.51Ckg/mol
