Solution

The correct option is A

30 km/hr

Let speed of steamer in still water = x km/hr
Speed of stream = 2 km/hr
Downstream Speed = (x + 2) km/hr
Upstream Speed = (x – 2) km/hr
Distance covered (downstream) = 7(x + 2)

Distance covered (upstream) = 8(x - 2)
According to the condition,
7(x+2) = 8(x-2)
7x + 14 = 8x – 16
x = 30 km/hr.
