Question

A stone is dropped from the top of a tower and travels 24.5m in the last second of its journey . What is the height of the tower ?


Solution

Distance travelled at nth second
= u + a/2(2n-1)
So here,
24.5=0+4.9(2n-1)
Hence n = 3
i.e It takes 3 secs to reach the bottom.
H = ut + 1/2gt^2
H = 0 + 4.9×9
H =44.1 m

Height of the towers 44.1 metres.
