Question 13
A wall 24 m long, 0.4 m thick and 6 m high is constructed with the bricks each of dimensions 25cm×16cm×10cm. If the mortar occupies 110th of the volume of the wall, then find the number of bricks used in constructing the wall.

Solution

Given that , a wall is constructed with the help of bricks and mortar.
Also, given that
Length of a wall (l) = 24 m
Thickness of a wall (b) = 0.4 m
Height of a wall (h) = 6 m
So, volume of a wall constructed with the bricks =l×b×h
=24×0.4×6=24×4×610 m3Now,110thVolume of a wall=110×24×4×610 m3and Length of a brick (11)=25cm=25100 mBreadth of brick (b1)=16cm=16100 mHeight of a brick (h1)=10cm=10100 mSo,Volume of a brick=11×b1×h1=25100×16100×110 m3
Number of bricks=(Volume of wall)(110th volume of wall)Volume of a brick
Number of bricks=(24×4×61024×4×6100)(25×16105)=24×4×6100×9×10525×16=24×4×6×9×100025×16=24×6×9×10=12960
Hence, the required number of bricks used in constructing the wall is 12960.
