Solution

(a) An earthquake is a sudden violent shaking of the ground as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action.

1. firstly they can be linked to explosive volcanic eruptions.

2. secondly they can be triggered by tectonic activity associated with plate margins and faults

(b) Focus-The location where the earthquake begins. The ground ruptures at this spot, then seismic waves radiate outward in all directions.
Epicenter-The point on the Earth's surface located directly above the focus of an earthquake.

(c) Earthquake can cause many severe destructions like the volcanic eruption, tsunami etc. It is due to the movement of tectonic plates. If an earthquake occurs, many people would lose their shelter and can also lose their life.
