Question

An elephant of mass 4000 kg and foot area 250 cm2 standing on the floor . Assuming that acceleration due to gravity is 10 m/s2 , find the pressure exerted by elephant on the floor?

Open in App
Solution

Pressure = Force/Area
Force = Mass x Gravity

Force exerted due to elephant = 4000x10=40000N
Foot Area = 250 cm^2= 0.025 m^2
Total Foot area = 4 x 0.025= 0.1 m^2
Pressure=40000/0.1 = 400000 Pa

Thus pressure exerted will be 400000 Pascal
