Question

An insect moves along a circular path of radius 10 centimetre with a constant speed. It takes one minute to move from a point on the path to a diametrically opposite point. Find- A. the distance covered. B. The displacement C. The average velocity

Solution

As the insect moves from one point on the path to a diametrically opposite point of the cicle

a) So the distance covered = 1/2 of the perimeter of the cicle = pi * r = 3.14 x 10cm = 31.40cm Ans.

b) displacement = diameter of the cicle = 2r = 2 x 10 = 20 cm Ans

c) average velocity = displacement / time = 20cm/1min =20cm/min Ans.
