An object is placed at a distance of 40 cm from a concave mirror of focal length 15 cm. If the object is displaced through a distance of 20 cm towards the mirror, by how much distance the image is displaced?

The correct option is C 36 cm
Given:
u=40 cm; f=15 cm

Using mirror formula,

1f=1u+1vv=ufuf

Substituting the values we get,

v=(40)(15)(40)(15)=24 cm

On displacement of the object towards the mirror,
u=2040=20 cm

v=ufuf=(20)(15)(20)(15)=60 cm

Distance by which image is displaced :
Δv=|(60)(24)|=36 cm

Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.
