Solution

(a) A crystalline compound NaCl that consists of sodium chloride is abundant in nature and is used especially to season or preserve food or in the industry. Also called common salt.

In chemistry, a salt is an ionic compound which is made up of two groups of oppositely charged ions. The ion with a positive charge is called a cation, and the one with a negative charge is called an anion. How many of each type of ion the salt has is important because the compound must have an overall electrical charge of zero - that is, an equal balance between the positive charge and negative charge.

(b) Insoluble salt is prepared by precipitation.

(c) Iron (III) chloride or Ferric chloride

2Fe (heated) +3Cl2 (dry) 2FeCl3

(d) By neutralizing sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide with dilute sulphuric acid :

Na2CO3+H2SO4Na2SO4+H2O+CO2

2NaOH+H2SO4Na2SO4+2H2O
