Veins are blood vessels that carry blood to the heart in humans and most other animals.
Most veins return deoxygenated blood from the tissues to the heart; exceptions are the pulmonary and umbilical veins, which carry oxygenated blood to the heart.
Blue veins:
Because veins are translucent, the color of venous blood, which is usually dark red due to its low oxygen content, determines how a vein appears from the outside of an organism.
Because of the low oxygen level in the vein, veins appear blue. Thus they are healthy.
