From the given figure,
Length of rectangle (l) = 5 cm and breadth of rectangle (b) = 3 + 1 = 4 cm
$\therefore$ Area of shaded portion $=\frac{1}{2}\times$ Area of rectangle $=\frac{1}{2}\times (l\times b)$
$\frac{1}{2}\times 5\times 4=10c{m}^2$
