The sound we hear is directed by the pinna into the ear canal. The sound waves hit the eardrum and sets it in vibration which in turn vibrates the 3 small bones in the ear - hammer, anvil and the stirrup. These sound waves are converted into electrical signals in the cochlea and sent to the brain.
