A nucleosome is a section of the chromosome in which DNA wrapped around a core of histone proteins. It is the fundamental subunit of chromatin. The octamer core of histone proteins is made up of two units each of $H 2 A$ , $H 2 B$ , $H 3$ and $H 4$ . The $H 1$ histone is a monomer which acts as a linker to attach one complete nucleosome structure externally. When the chromatin is extended the structure resembles beads on a string.
