Assertion : Plants having gene from Bacillus thuringiensis are resistant to insects .

Reason : These transgenic plants have receptors which convert protoxin into active toxin.
  1. Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
  2. Both A and R are true but R is not correct explanation of A
  3. A and R are false
  4. A is true but R is false

Solution

The correct option is D A is true but R is false
Plants having gene from Bacillus thuringiensis are resistant to insects. This is because when insects ingest the Bt toxins it goes and binds to receptors in the gut. This leads to the gut wall breaking, thereby killing the insect.
Therefore the reason is false.
