Solution

The correct option is B Statement-1 is true, statement-2 is true but statement-2 is not the correct explanation for statement-1
Copper and zinc are obtained by electrolysis of aqueous solution of their sulphates as Cu2+ and Zn2+ ions have lower discharge potential than hydrogen ions and will be liberated at cathode in preference to hydrogen ions. Elements that react with water are often extracted from fused melts of their ionic salts. For example, Na violently reacts with water. It is extracted by electrolysis of fused NaCl in presence of CaCl2 and KF (Down process). Thus, statement-1 is true, statement-2 is true but statement-2 is not the correct explanation for statement-1.
