SiCl4+2H2OSiO2+4HCl
In SiCl4, Silicon has unoccupied 3d orbitals which are able to accept electron pairs from the oxygen atoms of water to form bonds. Since there are no 2d orbitals, this cannot happen with tetrachloromethane.
