A chemical equation is the representation of total composition change related to the chemical reaction. It represents how reactants react to give a completely new product.

This means that the mass of a system of substances will remain constant, regardless of the processes acting inside the system. In other words, for any chemical equation, the mass of the reactants must equal the mass of the products.
