Solution

The correct option is A Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of the assertion
Hippocrates and the Indian Ayurveda system proposed that there is a link between humor (liquids) and health. According to them, health was the state of mind where there exists a balance between certain humors (liquids). It was believed that our body is made of four different humors - blood, yellow bile, black bile and phlegm. It was thought that a person with more amount of black bile in the body had more body temperature which results in fever, which was purely based on assumptions. This hypothesis was disproved when William Harvey discovered blood circulation in the 16th century conducting several experiments demonstrating normal body temperature using a thermometer. It was found that people believed to be having more black bile had normal body temperature and the body temperature is maintained by the circulation of blood and not by the amount of black bile in the body.
