For water absorption from the soil, plant roots also need energy and this energy is provided by respiration. If oxygen will not be present in the soil, root cells will not be able to perform respiration and hence, no energy will be released to aid water absorption. Accumulation of CO2 reduces water absorption by roots because CO2 increases the viscosity of the protoplasm of the cells and this results in decreased permeability of the root cells due to which water absorption is reduced. Hence, the reason is correct.
