Solution

The correct option is A

Both assertion and reason are false

The explanation for Correct Option:

Assertion:

  1. According to the reactivity series, copper is found at the bottom of hydrogen.
  2. Its reduction potential is higher than hydrogen i.e. it does not displace hydrogen from the non-oxidizing agent.
  3. Therefore, copper won't be able to displace hydrogen during the reaction.
  4. As a result, no reaction will occur and the color of the solution does not change.

The explanation for the reason:

Since hydrogen has a high reactivity than copper no reaction will occur when a piece of copper metal is added to diluted sulfuric acid.

Hence, Both assertion and reason are false. So the correct option is (A).
