Question

At 0.04 M concentration the molar conductivity of a solution of a electrolyte is 5000 Ω1 cm2 mol1 while at 0.01M concentration the value is 5100 Ω1 cm2 mol1. Making necessary assumption (Taking it as strong electrolyte) find the molar conductivity at infinite dilution and also determine the degree of dissociation of strong electrolyte at 0.04 M.

Solution

From the graph we can see the λM value of 5200 Ω1 cm2 mol1.

Hence α=λλ=50005200=0.9615=0.96

α %=96
