Question

Balance the following chemical equations:
$$Cu+HNO_{3} \rightarrow Cu(NO_{3})_{2}+NO_{2}+H_{2}O$$

Solution

$$Cu+HNO_{3} \rightarrow Cu(NO_{3})_{2}+NO_{2}+H_{2}O$$

Let us first balance, $$'H'$$ and $$'O'$$ on both sides of the equation by inserting $$'4'$$ before $$HNO_{3}$$ in L.H.S. $$'2'$$ before $$NO_{2}$$ and $$2$$ before $$H_{2}O$$ in R.H.S., we get:

$$Cu + 4HNO_{3} \rightarrow Cu(NO_{3})_{2} + 2NO_{2}+ 2H_{2}O $$
