Blood cells are isotonic with 0.9% sodium chloride solution. What happens if we place blood cells in a solution containing:
a) 1.2% sodium chloride solution?
b) 0.4% sodium chloride solution ?

a) Water will flow out of the cell and they would shrink as 1.2 % sodium chloride solution is hypertonic.

b) Water will flow into the cell and they would swell as 0.4 % sodium chloride solution is hypotonic.
