Question

By selling an article for Rs. $$225$$, a shopkeeper loses Rs. $$25\%$$. Find his gain or loss percent, if he sells the article for Rs. $$360$$.

Solution

$$CP=Rs\text{ }x$$
$$SP=Rs\text{ }225$$
$$loss=25\%$$
$$\cfrac{x-225}{x}=\cfrac{25}{100}$$
$$\Longrightarrow 100x-22500=25x$$
$$\Longrightarrow 75x=22500$$
$$\Longrightarrow x=300$$
Now, $$SP=360$$
$$profit \%=\cfrac{360-300}{300}\times 100=\cfrac{60}{3}=20\%$$
