Question

Calculate the number of molecules present in 7.2 gms of pentane gas. (C5H12)

Correct Answer
A

Number of molecules =60×1021

Your Answer
B

Number of molecules =6×100023

Your Answer
C

Number of molecules =60×1023

Your Answer
D

Number of molecules =6×10024

Solution

The correct option is A

Number of molecules =60×1021

Molecular Mass of pentane C5H12 = 5×12+12×1

= 60 + 12 = 72g

Number of moles of pentane =(C5H12)

=MassMolecular Mass=7.272

= 0.1
1 mole of pentane contains 6.022×1023  molecules.

Number of molecules in 0.1 mole pentane

=0.1×6.022×1023

=6.022×1022 molecules

=60.22×1021 molecules
