Question

Calculate the ratio of the equivalent resistance of two wires connected in series combination to that in equivalent resistance in parallel combination.
Given that R1=2 Ω and R2=8 Ω

Open in App
Solution

The resistance of the two wires are
R1=2 Ω and R2=8 Ω
Equivalent resistance in Series combination
Req=R1+R2
Req=2+8=10 Ω
Req in series =10 Ω
Equivalent resistance in parallel combination
$\Rightarrow \dfrac {1}{R_{eq}}=\dfrac {1}{R_1}+\dfrac {1}{R_2}$
1Req=12+18
1Req=4+18=58
Req=85Ω
Ratio of equivalent resistance series to parallel combination
=1085=508=254
Hence the ratio of the Equivalent resistance in series to parallel combination is 25/4
