Question

Can solids be compressed?

Open in App
Solution

Yes, solids can be compressed but to a very small extent due to its compact packing. Each solid material has its own varying elastic properties, but solids generally break or deform when enough pressure is applied. Even though some examples can prove that solids can be compressed like the formation of artificial diamond which is produced by compressing pure carbon compound to form diamond by rearrangement of carbon atoms.
