Solution

The correct option is C A-3, B-4, C-2, D-1
Movement of nutrients occurs through various biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem and is termed as biogeochemical cycle. It is of two types based on the reservoirs -
  • Gaseous cycle - The reservoir exists in the atmosphere. Example: Nitrogen, carbon, etc.
  • Sedimentary cycle - The reservoir exists in the earth’s crust. Examples : Sulphur, phosphorus, etc.
Fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum mostly consist of carbon. Hence, they are a reservoir of carbon.

Pond ecosystem is an example of an aquatic ecosystem which comprises both biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) components. Abiotic components include water, soil, sunlight, temperature, etc. The biotic components of the pond ecosystem include phytoplanktons, some algae, floating plants, submerged plants, plants found at the edges of the pond, zooplanktons, free-swimming and the bottom dwelling animals, bacteria, fungi, etc.
