Question

Chromosomes are pinched off at the ends. These are called _____.

  1. sister chromatids

  2. Satellite chromosomes

  3. Chromatins

  4. chromosomes

Solution

The correct option is B

Satellite chromosomes

A satellite chromosome or SAT chromosome has a chromosome segment that is separated from the main body of the chromosome.
The DNA double helix in the cell nucleus is packaged by special proteins termed histones.  This protein/DNA complex is called chromatin. During cell division the chromatin condenses and coils up to form chromosomes. A sister chromatid refers to the two identical copies (chromatids) formed by the replication of a single chromosome, with both copies joined together by a centre called centromere.
