Solution

Ecological succession:

Ecological succession is the development of a series of communities in a given area till the climax community is developed which does not change further.

Ecological succession is of two types:
  • Primary succession- occurs on the bare area
  • Secondary succession- occurs in an area where the previous community is destroyed due to fire, floods, landslides, etc.

Climax community:

The climax community is the last stage of ecological succession and does not change further.

In secondary succession which develops in an area that was previously inhabited, the environmental conditions are favorable, the soil is fertile as humus is present. These conditions favor the development of communities much faster as a result the climax stage is reached much faster in a secondary succession when compared to primary succession.
