Question

Consider the following statements:
1) If all the reactants are not taken in their stoichiometric ratio, then at least one reactant will be left behind.
2) 2 moles of H2(g) and 3 moles of O2(g) produce 2 moles of water.
3) Equal wt. of carbon and oxygen are taken to produce CO2 then O2 is the limiting reagent.

Solution

The correct option is A TTT
For statement 1,
If reactants are not taken in their stoichiometric ratio, then at least one reactant will be in excess and either one or more than one reactant will be the limiting agent.
For statement 2,
2H2+O22H2O
Limiting reagent will be hydrogen and 2 moles of water will be produced.
For statement 3,
C+O2CO2
Let the amount of reactant be 1 g.
Moles of carbon =112 mol
Moles of oxygen =132 mol
Since moles of oxygen are lesser than carbon, it will be the limiting reagent. Hence, all three statements are true.
