Article 35A grants the status of permanent residency to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). This Article was incorporated in the Indian Constitution through the Presidential Order of 1954. It effectively made most of the provisions of Indian Constitution applicable to the state of J&K such as fundamental rights, the extent of the jurisdiction of High Court, power of election commission to conduct elections etc.
