Vitamin B12 is also known as cyanocobalamin and cobalamin. It is reported in Spirulina (an alga). It can be obtained from animal source also such as from liver, meat, fish, eggs, milk. Its main function is the production of RBCs. Deficiency of vitamin B12 can cause pernicious anaemia. In this disease, there is reduced production of RBCs in bone marrow. Deficiency of vitamin B12 also causes demyelination of nerve fibres and glossitis
