Question

Define osmotic pressure? Write diffusion and Osmotic pressure?

Open in App
Solution

The excess of pressure on the side of solution that stops the net flow of solvent into solution through semipermeable membrane is called osmotic pressure.
The expression for osmotic pressure is π=iCRT
Here π is the osmotic pressure, i is vant Hoff factor, C is the molar concentration, R is the ideal gas constant and T is the temperature in kelvin.
The expression for rate of diffusion is r=Vt=kPM
Here r is the rate of diffusion, V is the volume of gas diffused in time t, M is the molar mass of gas and P is the pressure of gas.
