Structure and organisational level Description
Muscle (Organ)A muscle consists of hundred to thousands of muscle cells plus connective tissue wrappings the blood vessels and nerve fibres.
Muscle fibreA muscle fibre is a multinucleated cell. It has a banded appearance. A muscle fibre is basically formed when a large unit of myofibrils are arranged together.
MyofibrilMyofibrils are rod-like contractile elements. Composed of sarcomere arranged end to end.
SarcomereA sarcomere is a contractile unit composed of filaments made up of contractile elements.
FilamentsFilaments are the smallest unit of a muscle. These are of two types thick and thin filament. Thick filaments contain myosin molecule and thin filaments contain actin molecule.
