Question

Describe the drawback of Rutherford's model of atom.

Open in App
Solution

1) Rutherford proposed that electrons revolve at high speed in circular orbits around a positively charged nucleus.
So according to Rutherford's model of atom, the electron would eventually fall into the nucleus. The result of this would be that the atom would collapse.

2) Rutherford proposed that electrons revolve around the nucleus in the fixed orbits. However, he did not specify the orbits and the number of electrons in each orbit.
