Difference between theca and lobe of an anther.

Open in App
Solution

Stamen is the male reproductive part of the flower which consists of an anther and a filament.

The upper spore-producing part of the stamen is called Anther. It consists of either two lobes or one lobe. Each lobe contains two pollen sacs or microsporangia. Each anther contains either two lobes or one lobe. Anther with two lobes is called Dithecous anther and anther with one lobe is called Monothecous anther.

Theca is the cavity in the lobes. Each theca contains two microsporangia, also known as pollen sacs. The microsporangia produce the microspores, which for seed plants are known as pollen grains.

Often, the theca is separated by a groove that runs longitudinally.
