Question

Directions (1-4): Read the following information carefully and answer the following questions that follow:

Mr. Sharma, a truck driver drives his truck every day. He travels a different distance by his truck on each day.

The pie chart given below shows the percentage of distance travelled on a particular day (one out of Monday to Friday) out of the total distance that he travelled in the five days (Monday-Friday) of a particular week.

Days

Speed (in km/ hr)

Monday

------

Tuesday

52

Wednesday

------

Thursday

68

Friday

------

Total distance travelled by the truck = 2000 Km

The table given below shows the average speed (in km/hr) of Mr. Sharma's truck on the five weekdays. Some of the data is missing.

2. If the average speed of the truck on Sunday is 25% more than the speed on Thursday while the distance travelled on Sunday is 70 km more than the distance travelled on Monday, then find the time taken (in hrs) to travel the distance on Sunday.

Solution

The correct option is B 6

Distance travelled on Monday = 22% of 2000 = 440 km

Similarly,

Day Distance Travelled (in km)
Monday 440
Tuesday 520
Wednesday 255
Thursday 340
Friday 445

Time for which Mr. Sharma travelled on Tuesday = 52052=10hrs

Time for which Mr. Sharma travelled on Thursday = 34068=5hrs

Speed of truck on Sunday = 68 × 1.25 = 85 km/hr

Distance travelled on Sunday = 440 + 70 = 510 km

Time taken to travel the distance on Sunday = 51085=6hrs
