Question

Directions:- Study the following information carefully to answer the question given below.

Nine people, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J stay in a building, but not necessarily in the same order. The building has nine floors and only one person stays on one floor. All of them own one car each, and each car is of a different colour, i.e. blue, grey, white, black, yellow, green, red, orange and pink, but not necessarily in the same order. The ground floor is numbered 1, the floor above it is numbered 2, and so on, and the topmost floor is numbered 9.
H owns a black coloured car and stays on an even numbered floor. A stays on any even numbered floor below the floor on which H stays.
The one who owns an orange coloured car stays on the fourth floor. E stays on the second floor and owns a white coloured car. The one who owns a pink coloured car stays on the third floor.
A does not own a green coloured car. There are two floors between the floors on which the people owning the red and the black coloured cars stay. C owns a grey coloured car. There are three floors between the floors on which C and G stay.
D stays on a floor immediately above J's floor. There is one floor between the floors on which F and G stay. F does not own the pink coloured car. The one who owns the blue car stays on the topmost floor. F does not stay on the ground floor.

Who stays on the floor which is exactly between the floor on which H stays and the floor on which A stays?

Solution

The correct option is D F
Nine people A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J stay in different floors of a building. All of them own a car and each car is of a different colour.
The ground floor is numbered 1 and topmost floor is numbered 9.
H stays on an even numbered floor and owns a black car.
Possible Floors
H(2,4,6,8) Black Car
A stays on an even numbered floor below the floor on which H stays.

The one who owns an orange coloured car stays on the fourth floor.
? Orange car Fourth floor
E stays on second floor and owns a white-coloured car.
E White car Second Floor
The one who owns a pink coloured car stays on third floor.
? Pink car Third floor.
Now, it is clear that we are left with two even numbered floors and H stays above A, so
H is on Floor number 8
A is on Floor number 6
There are two floors between the person who owns red car and the one who owns black car.
H owns black car (Floor number 8)
___Floor number 7
___Floor number 6
___Red Car (Floor number 5)
The one who owns blue car lives on top floor.
Blue car Floor number 9
F does not stay on ground floor and F does not own pink car means F does not stay on floor number 3.
C owns a grey coloured car and there are three floors between the floor on which C and G stays.

D stays on a floor immediately above J's floor.
DJ
Now, we summarise the above information as
FloorCarPerson9Blue8BlackH76A5Red4Orange3Pink2WhiteE1
A does not owns a green coloured car and C owns a grey coloured car.
Now, we are left with yellow colour.
So, A owns car with yellow colour.
A Yellow car - Floor number 6
F does not live on floor number 1.
So, C who owns grey car stay on floor 1.
C Grey Floor no 1.
Since, three people live between C and G.
So,
G Red Floor number 5 and D stay immediately above J.
So
D Floor 4 ; J Floor 3
There is one floor between the floor on which F and G stays, so F stays on floor number 7.
F Green Floor number 7.
Now, only B is left, so it will stay on top most floor. So, from the above information, we get
FloorCarPerson9BlueB8BlackH7GreenF6YellowA5RedG4OrangeD3PinkJ2WhiteE1GreyC

F stays exactly between the H and A.
