Question

Divide $$Rs. 154$$ between $$A$$ and $$B$$ in such a way that three seventeen of $$A's$$ share exceeds two fifths of $$B's$$ share by $$Rs. 8$$.

Solution

$$A+B=154$$ ……….$$(1)$$
Given $$17A-\dfrac{2}{5} B=8$$
$$85A-2B=40$$ ……….$$(2)$$
$$(A+B=154)$$ ……..$$(1)\times (2)$$
$$\Rightarrow 85A-\not{2B}=40$$
$$ +  2A+\not{2B}=308$$
______________________________
$$87A=348$$
$$A=4$$
$$B=154-4=150$$.
