(i) The cerebellum lies below and behind the cerebrum. It consists of three parts.
(ii) The pons is a crosswise, broad band of fibres that links the medulla oblongata, cerebellum and cerebrum.
(iii) The medulla oblongata is the lowermost and hinder part of the brain that continues below into the spinal cord.
(iv) The midbrain is a small thick-walled area that lies hidden below the cerebrum.
(v) The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain that makes up more than 80 per cent of the organ and possesses six to seven billion neurons.
(vi) The thalamus helps relay sensory impulses and regulate smooth muscle activity.
