Question

Draw propagation diagram of a linearly polarised electromagnetic wave and write any two properties of electromagnetic waves.
The amplitude of the magnetic field associated with an electromagnetic wave in vacuum is B0=50×108 tesla. Write the value of amplitude of the electric field in V/m associated with the wave.

Solution

Two properties of electromagnetic waves are-

1. Electromagnetic waves are propagated by oscillating electric and magnetic fields oscillating at right angles to each other.
2. Electromagnetic waves need no medium of propagation.

The amplitude of electric field and magnetic field are related as
E0=cB0
E0=3×108×50×108V/m
=150V/m
