Question

Draw the perpendicular bisector of XY whose length is 10.3 cm.

(a) Take any point P on the bisector drawn. Examine whether PX=PY.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Construct the perpendicular bisector of XY

XY, a line segment of a length 10.3 cm is drawn

Taking radius greater than half the length of XY, place the needle at X and draw a circle.

Place the needle at Y and without changing the radius, cut two arcs C and D on the circle.

Join the points C and D which is the perpendicular bisector of XY.

Step 2 : Examine whether PX=PY

Take a point P on the perpendicular bisector CD.

Using ruler, measure lengths PX and PY.
They will be equal as the point P lies on the perpendicular bisector of XY.

Hence, PX = PY.
