Question

Each of the two equal sides of an isosceles triangle is 1 cm less than the third. If its perimeter is 16 cm, find the sides of the triangle.

Solution

R,E.F image
Let the third side, Bc be x cm
Then, the other sides = (x - 1),(x - 1) cm each
$$ \therefore $$ Perimeter = 16
$$ \therefore (x-1)+(x-1)+x=16$$
3x - 2 = 16
3x = 18
x = 6 cm
AB = AC = 5cm , BC = 6 cm
