Question

Explain adsorption from solution phase? Write Freundlich equation related to it?

Open in App
Solution

During adsorption from solution phase, solid can adsorb solutes from solution. For example, litmus solution is shaken with charcoal, it becomes colourless.

The adsorption from solution phase depends on temperature, surface area of adsorbent, concentration of solute in solution and nature of adsorbent and adsorbate.
Freundlich equation related to adsorption from solution phase :
xm=kC1/n
x= mass of solid solute adsorbed
m= mass of adsorbent (solution)
C= equilibrium concentration
k and n are constants.
