When examining a physical change, (where there is scope for the reactants to be separated), one observes that solid particles in a liquid are too small and fine to pass through the traditional filter paper. Obviously, the filtration technique cannot be used here. So for these types of mixtures where the suspended particles are in a colloidal state, fine and extremely small the method of centrifugation is used. The centrifugation is based on the principle that the denser particles are forced to the bottom of the container and lighter particles remain at the top of the container when spun rapidly.
