Explain different causes of poverty.
Some of the causes of poverty include the following:
(a) Poverty itself is the biggest cause of poverty: Poverty is a cause as well as effect of poverty. This is because of the viscious cycle of poverty.
(b) Low level of economic development: During British Rule, British shut down the textile industry of India. They used India as mere exporter of raw material and a buyer of their finished goods. India witnessed a large depletion of resources in this period.
(c) Income Inequalities: Due to unfair land distribution system like the Zamindari system, land was unequally distributed. Even other income generating assets were unequally distributed. This inequality continues to exist and remains one of the biggest causes of poverty.
