Question

Explain different equations of motion.

Open in App
Solution

Equations of motion:

  1. We derive three standard equations of motion, also known as the laws of constant acceleration, for motion with uniform or constant acceleration (one with equal change in velocity in equal intervals of time).
  2. These equations contain quantities that govern the motion of a particle, such as a displacement(s), velocity (initial u and final v), time(t), and acceleration(a).
  3. These equations can only be used when a body's acceleration is constant and motion is in a straight line.

The three equations are as follows:

  1. v=u+at
  2. v2=u2+2as
  3. s=ut+12at2
