Question

Explain pascal's law.

Open in App
Solution

Pascal's law states that any pressure applied to a fluid inside a closed system will transmit that pressure equally in all directions throughout the fluid.

This law is the basic principle that causes hydraulic power in heavy construction machines to work.

Pascal's law allows forces to be multiplied. A common application of this is a hydraulic lift used to raise a car off the ground so it can be repaired at a garage.

Hydraulic systems use incompressible fluids, such as oil or water, to transmit forces from one location to another within the fluid. Therefore Pascal's law can be interpreted as saying that any change in pressure applied at any given point of the fluid is transmitted undiminished throughout the fluid.
