Explain why a piece of wood floats on water while a stone settles down.

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
A WOOD HAS LESS DENSITY THAN WATER WHERE AS A STONE HAS MORE DENSITY THAN WATER. SO THAT'S WHY A PIECE OF WOOD FLOATS AND A STONE SINKS IN WATER.

When the density is less than water then the object floats and when the denisty is more than water it sinks.

Regards.
